ElementUsageEx Add-in

The ElementUsageEx Add-in offers more features than the built-in 'Find in Diagrams' feature in Enterprise Architect. This Add-in can continue to work in the Add-in window, so you can keep the window open and examine elements in diagrams or the Browser without having to reopen the dialog.

In addition, it is possible to show more usage, such as the usage of triggers and signals.

Furthermore, when you select an instanced element, the Add-in will display information about the classifier element. Usually, we do not want information about the instance itself, but about its classifier. For example, when we select a Lifeline in a Sequence diagram, we usually want to know where the classifier (of the Lifeline) is used in other Sequence diagrams (as Lifelines) and Class diagrams (as Classes).

Features

The toolbar provides some features for the selected element.

  • 'Check' icon: toggle to enable/disable this Add-in
  • 'Lock' icon: keep the current information even if you select another element. This button is useful when you want to examine diagrams about the target element.
  • 'Diagrams' icon: display the target element for all open diagrams
  • 'Glasses' icon: highlight the selected element in the Browser

How to Use

After installation, click the 'Windows' button in the 'Specialize' ribbon, the 'Add-ins' panel. The Add-in will be activated by pressing the Activate button in the window.

Then select any item you want to check in a diagram or in the Browser window. The Add-in will display information about the use of the element in the list. By double-clicking any item in the list, you can open the target diagram and locate the target element (or related elements/connectors) in a diagram.

Once this Add-in is enabled, it will retrieve information about the selected element whenever you select an element in Enterprise Architect. If you do not need this Add-in, you can pause it by clicking on the 'Check' icon to avoid slowing down performance.
